As I entered the dark bar, the smell of liquor assaulted my nostrils. I walked a few steps and paused, letting my eyes adapt to the dimness. The neon lights illuminated the usual scene: a row of stools, a pool table, a jukebox. I headed for the bar, where an attractive blonde was leaning against the counter. She wore a white t-shirt and leather jeans, and her dark glasses hid her eyes. An empty shot glass rested by her hand. She glanced at me as I approached, and I could tell she was waiting for me to say something or buy her a drink. She probably never had to pay for anything in this place. I looked at the barman and ordered a whisky, a double. He brought me the drink and I downed it in one gulp. He refilled it from the bottle he still held. I eyed the blonde's glass and nodded to him. He poured her another shot. She asked me what I was ordering, trying to figure me out.
