Homer, possibly born circa VIII century BC, was an ancient greek poet who is credited as the author of the Iliad and the Odyssey, two epic poems that are foundational works of ancient Greek literature. The Homeric poems shaped aspects of ancient Greek culture and education, fostering ideals of heroism, glory and honor. Most widespreen accounts of Homer's life during classical antiquity depicts him as a blind bard from Ionia (present day Turkey) but modern scholars consider these accounts legendary.
