Leon De Smet

Léon De Smet (1881 – 1966) was a Belgian painter known for his contributions to Impressionism, Expressionism, and Pointillism. He was the younger brother of the Flemish Expressionism painter Gustave De Smet. His style is noted for its vibrant use of colour and light, capturing the play of light in various settings, from intimate interiors to expansive landscapes. He primarily worked with oil paints, employing loose, expressive brushstrokes and pointillist techniques to convey the transient effects of light and atmosphere. His compositions often featured serene, idyllic scenes that exuded a sense of tranquillity and harmony, reflecting the influence of his contemporaries and the broader European art movements of his time.
