Franz Kline

Franz Kline (1910 – 1962) was an artist from the USA, best known for his significant contributions to the Abstract Expressionism movement. Kline’s art style is characterised by its bold, gestural brushstrokes and monochromatic palette, often using black-and-white to create dynamic and powerful compositions. He primarily used oil paints on canvas, working on a large scale to convey energy and movement. He was part of a group of artists that came to be known as the New York School of Abstract Expressionism, alongside artists such as Willem de Kooning and Jackson Pollock. Kline’s innovative approach to abstraction has made him a key figure in post-war art in the USA, influencing subsequent generations of artists.
