Edgar Rice Burroughs introduced Tarzan in his 1912 novel Tarzan of the Apes, creating one of literature's most enduring adventure heroes. The character—an English nobleman raised by apes in the African jungle—captured imaginations worldwide with his extraordinary strength and survival skills.

Tarzan's popularity exploded beyond literature, spawning numerous film adaptations beginning with silent movies in the 1910s and continuing through Johnny Weissmuller's iconic 1930s-40s portrayals to Disney's 1999 animated feature.
