I swear I've seen a similar looking design somewhere on the internet in the last year. But I'm not sure if the purpose was the same. I look at so many things and read so many that only the ones that matter to me or are about nature related things like plants and animals that I can quickly forget the details. Any idea of what I might've seen? I'm thinking there is something like this for the AI to come up with this design since it can only 'create' what images are fed to it.

I've definitely seen something like this in some future-technology meets urban-design article.  I'm interested in both.  I've also seen reference to synthetic photosynthesis to try to use solar energy to produce liquid fuel.

I seriously doubt there'll be any synthetic form of photosynthesis developed for a long long time. Chlorophyll already is incredibly efficient at converting light energy to chemical energy (visible light to carbohydrates) and then the plant itself forms liquid fuel in the form of plant oils. If anything could be devised, it would be to make use of the part of the light spectrum that plants don't use like green to yellow light since plants only use red and blue and each fit a different purpose for the plant. Even with my background in biology, I understand genetics better than all that's involved in photosynthesis. I understand enough to know it's absolutely complex!

Good one, Charlie. The thing is a tree is the perfect factory. It's quiet or makes soothing sound when a breeze ruffles its leaves. It cleans the air while also making oxygen for animal life and moderating the temperature through evaporative cooling. It produces a wide variety of food for a wide variety of animal life from insects and their larvae, to birds, to mammals including us. It provides medicine either in its unrefined form or by isolating chemical compounds that make up its components. While living, it provides a home or shelter to many animals and when it's dead or cut down provides furniture, utensils, tools and homes for us. No single manmade factory can ever hope to achieve what a tree does. 💚🌳💚

110% agreement.  In almost all contexts, I'd always prefer a real tree.  Having said that, tree-like structures can be preferable to soulless structures like radio communication masts.  💡 I must try to apply the idea to a bus shelter.

And I'm in agreement with you there too! I find the structures built in Singapore's Garden By the Bay, its "supertrees", incredible. If it was possible for me to visit for two weeks, any place, anywhere in the world, I'd love to visit Singapore. Besides the issue of how expensive it would be, the climate is also a HUGE factor - very high humidity and high temperatures. I don't even think I'd survive a day!
