Spoiler Alert! Originally, after taking over the cliff, Thelma & Louise drove off on the highway into the horizon, once they had landed. But test audiences got irritatet, and the final cut finished in the moment of taking off.
The reality behind this: That is true. However, not in such an excessive shot as the AI offers here to my delight. (With switched sides in the car, which is nice, as Thelma was taking the lead in the end of the movie.) And audience were irritated. Including the press. As I head read about this in the press back then like in the description above. When this deleted scene was released to the public, it transpired, that the way the two heroines' take-off over the cliff was shown, could not possibly result in a happy-ending.
