Blood Moon

I never wanted to be a hero. I'm not delusional, I know that heroes are overrated. But the city I protect is worth protecting. I'm not their hero, but I will protect them with my life. I'm not their idol, but I won't rest until everyone is safe.

The light of the blood moon demands it as I patrol the edges of the city, carefully watching for anyone who may be in need. Red rays of silk stream to the ground around me, illuminating the stone wall I balance upon. Stout cobblestone houses crouch beneath me, holding tight to the families that live inside of them.

A scream, though distant, pierces my ears and I leap to the sky. My wings push through the air, and for a moment I feel like a dark angel, but I know I am not.

I am the protector of my city, not their hero. They need a protector.

They need me.
