It wasn't easy; the rocks were wet and extremely slippery in some spots. At times, they had to wade through the water, struggling to avoid falling. The water was freezing cold. The current was strongest in the middle of the river. They clung to each other and grabbed onto anything they could find to move forward. They were almost to the other side when Pipper felt an underwater rock shift, and his legs were swept out from under him. The cold water took his breath away as it closed over him.
