That was interesting how Noah first sent out a raven but the next two times, he sent a dove. I was curious why the change in bids.

That is an interesting question.   I've never thought about it, just assumed that he decided that the raven wasn't useful in determining if it was safe, since it never came back.  

A quick look at some on-line sources suggest that the raven might have been able to find food (the bodies of the dead animals) while the dove couldn't.  Lacking food it would return to where it knew it would have food and shelter.

No, the raven did come back as different Bible translations said it kept going out and returning - check Gen.8:7. But the idea that any source of food might be carrion may be true. Noah wanted dry land with plants like trees that survived.  

Verse 4 says  in the 7th month the ark rested on the mountains of Ararat, but in v.5, it says the 10th month was when the top of mountains were visible. It took 2 1/2 months more! I guess the bottom of the ark rested on the mountain's land but still had water around its sides. Not till 40 days later, that he sent the raven. Later he sent the dove but it returned so 7 days after that he sent it again. At this point, it brought an olive leaf back. Then he waited 7 more days! This time when he sent the dove it didn't return.
