An unwilling puppet, he defied the Javanese and asserted Khmer independence in 802, when he also was installed under Hindu rites as devarāja, or god-king. Mark, this is so intense. It projects a feeling of chaos because of the swirling clouds (gorgeous colors!) and movement in different directions. The demonic faces gaping from the clouds seem poised to swallow lost souls. It can't help but get an emotional response from the viewer.

I really changed and ramped up the colors on this, I wanted it to look like they were running on something really hot, and I wanted the clouds yellow to look like sulfur fumes.

That absolutely worked! the feeling of Hellfire and Brimstone is pervasive, and one can almost taste the choking fumes.
