The castle in the other pic was too grand. Recall that Lestat's family while technically royalty, had little to no money nor dignity left to that title. I felt it needed a lesser castle. Also, the dogs are described as wearing spiked collars. IDK that they'd have been this modern looking, but collars like that certainly would be at least some initital protection against wolves.
