Copper Plate Lithographs were one of the middle stage image printing techniques. Replacing woodblock and fading out when color ink machines were invented.

Here we see a book illustration of a fantasy scene. Nineteenth century fear of science, mad scientists & unknowable technology gave way to the invention of science fiction as a writing genre.

Here we see a mad scientist and his clunky invention, a prototype giant robot of the Mecha style.
