You got me curious about the word cheese and how it's written in different languages in Europe and what the origin of the word is. Most of the words for cheese originate from two Latin words, caseus and forma. The first word is Latin for cheese and the second, is Latin for the moulds used to shape the more firm cheeses. Ost, a Swedish person said, was "supposedly from Germanic *justa- and related to Latin "jus", meaning soup or sauce" since some cheeses tended to be thinner. Maybe like yogurt or soured milk.?
