My grandparents kept boxes and boxes of old things in the loft of their garage. Despite the dust, I would spend hours up there. One of my favourite finds were numbered collections of the American Saturday Evening Post. They started about 1952 (when Mum was born!) and went right up to the mid 60s. I asked my parents if they were still around when Pop finally went to Nan and yes they were. I now have the entire collection. So I became a Rockwell fangirl.

Such a beautiful work, Melanie! I'm a lover of Rockwell too! My aunt had some prints of his in her house. His paintings of the boy scouts are amongst my favorites of his! Also very awesome story too! It's always so cool what grandparents collect and what grandchildren find interesting from them!
Very nice work. Interestingly enough this image would never have been among his work while at the Saturday Evening Post not because of hi own natural inclinations but The publication itself had specific rules limiting the roles in which minorities could be displayed. His private work was another matter and after 1960 the Post even relaxed some of it's rules. Now I had no idea that this was the case until you published this piece. As I looked at it I went through a vast catalogue of visual data stored in my brain (my memory is mainly based on visual images and I spent a lot of time studying various artists techniques )and I realized that there are very few people of color in those images so I looked it up. It amazes me that even after all of this time I am still learning new things about art history.
Wonderful image & piece of family history Sis!🤗🥰
