Reminds me either of Pandemonium from Paradise Lost by Milton or The City of Dis in which contain the other 4 Inner Circles of Hell as opposed to the other 5 outer Circles from Dante's Inferno.
And this amazing artwork does tell the story via the Cantos, John Calvin, and Vergil;

Indeed. The Inferno knows no pity or remorse, but true to the Saga, all who crossed the threshold into those circles in the burning Gates of Hades would be shown no mercy and would never return the same.
