Yes. It was also where the fold point was so they could be stored a bit more compactly on aircraft carriers. This was the fighter aircraft equivalent of the American muscle car. Not graceful but with power to burn! Nicknamed the Rhino, the St. Louis Slugger, and my favorite, Double-Ugly.
