Front door

Alistair strode through the door. He slammed his staff on the floorboards with the thunderous crack. His voice was booming over the din:

“Enough! By the council's word, this ends now!”

His deputies flanked him, their cudgels raised. The villagers hesitated, fists frozen mid mid-swing, the ingrained light of weight of law and order dragging them back from the brink.
Through the heaving crowd, Helena caught a glimpse of Fairbairn by the wall, one arm brace protectively around Edward. Her braid came loose, and a breeze darkened her, but she was still on her feet. 

Alistair slammed his staff against the floorboards, the staff making a thundering sound as it touched the wood. His voice boomed over the roar. “Enough! Stand down, all of you!”


His deputies waited in striking tables with their cudgels to the shock to shock the fighters out of their frenzy. Slowly and grudgingly the villagers pulled apart. A few men nursed bloody noses, others rubbed bruised jaws. Overturned benches littered the floor, the flicker of the hearth’s fire revealed mugs smashed to shards, stew spilled in messy puddles, and a lute lying splintered beneath the footprints.

Shame began to seep into the silence that followed. 

From the back of the room Fairbairn wiped blood from the corner of her mouth with the back of her hand. She gave a short weary laugh.

“So much for a quiet pint,” she said. 

Edward managed to raise rueful grin. “Still the best night I've had in months.”


The constable surveyed the room, a scowl was on his face. “Who started the fight?” he asked. Fairbairn, Edward, and several of the patrons pointed to Columba. Alistair motioned to one of his deputies who apprehended the man. Columba was still in a blessed-out state. He began to mutter: 

*“Shel kek nem rom romnak, Tek’ma’tek maet kree!”* He said as he passed through the door at the Tavern. Helena was shocked. That was the same Goa’uld phrase the dissidents spoke. But now it had been spoken by an adult! “Was he was he under the influence of Nish’ta?” She had to know. 

Helena panted as she exclaimed. “Constable, there's a fight in the Tavern question! Men and women, the Lady’s influence! One of my teammates and Edward are trapped inside!” 

The constable, a tall slender man with fair skin, blue eyes, rugged brown hair and a weathered face set his jaw grimly. He stood and grabbed his staffing cloak. 
“I feared this. Come. We'll put an end to it.” He motioned to his two deputies who stood and grabbed cudgels from a nearby rack. Together they set off at a brisk march, the lantern light bobbing. 
Helena kept pace, her heart pounding, a prayer forming silently on her lips.

The Tavern loomed ahead, the door banging open, a roar of voices spilling into the night. Inside mugs shattered, benches crashed, and shouts of “the Lady!” and “Demons!” filled the air.

Sure, the idea here is that the picture paints a story. If reality itself isn't real, then what created the thing? Well in the bible the word Metron is mentioned 13 times. Metron is also the name of a peculiarly similar sounding DC Comics character. The idea here is that Metron isn't here. He's left a program of himself that makes decisions for him. He hovers over our planet but is it Earth? Do we live on Earth? Because Paradise is Earth, and we aren't living in paradise. I form the pictures step by step adding more and more complexity to match my needs. Sometimes simple is better. 33
