now this was an effect I was trying to get as a tunnel through clouds, oh, a year or so ago, and wasn't getting anywhere

So I got an effect that you were trying for...but I was trying for a tornado which this isn't...but I love this result!

yeah, i agree.  now that i've taken part in a few challenges, am starting to grok what's going on. 

namely, when there are no clear and precise evaluation guidelines, it seems users are just letting their aesthetic biases guide their evaluation INSTEAD OF applying some sort of rational art evaluation criteria such as (not exhaustive): concept the artwork embodies, composition (i like to stress that one a lot bc when we don't try to badger the engine, the AI always tends to put characters dead center and facing the cam, and it gets old real quick tbh, and why i've been experimenting with technical cinema keywords to get different shot angles etc), color use (naïve/canned vs purposeful), lighting, quirky details that ARE meant to be in the frame as opposed to accidental artifacts, etc...)

in other words, wanna-be judges need a rational framework and not just go by the 'oh that's cute, i like it == automatic upvote'  method.  

just saying.  the Inquisitor has spoken! 

Wow, thank you so much for this thoughtful response! And I 100% agree. I love shots that are not the "norm." Like shots looking up from a person's feet, or the shot of someone from behind. Depending on the mood of the image I'm trying to capture, I tend to determine my angle and lightning based on that. I am a photographer, so different angles set right with me, and I tend to focus on the mood for most, and what my image is trying to saying. Right! People are very biased, and love this certain style of art on here, it gets really annoying. I like something different, something you don't see everyday... We have the same ideas, so thank you so much for sharing! 😁
