Erebus is the Greek god of darkness and shadow, representing the deep, inescapable gloom that fills the space between the earth and the underworld. According to Greek mythology, Erebus is one of the first primordial deities, born directly from Chaos, the vast, empty void that existed before the creation of the world. Erebus and his sister Nyx (Night) personify the more mysterious and daunting elements of existence—darkness and night.His realm is thought to be the murky region where the souls of the dead pass through on their journey to the underworld, adding to his association with the unknown and the afterlife. Erebus and Nyx have several important offspring, including Hypnos (Sleep), Thanatos (Death), and Charon, the ferryman who guides souls across the river Styx.
