Yan Liben (c. 600–673) was a Chinese painter and government official of the Tang Dynasty, renowned for his detailed and expressive figure paintings. As a court artist, he created historical and ceremonial scenes, most notably The Thirteen Emperors Scroll, which depicted past rulers with remarkable realism and character. His works emphasized delicate linework, balanced composition, and subtle color, influencing later Chinese portraiture. Beyond his artistic achievements, he served as a high-ranking official, eventually becoming Chancellor.
