In predicate logic the upsidedown "A" symbol ∀ denotes "for all" (universal quatification). Before its introduction by Gerhard Gentzen, "Untersuchungen ueber das logische Schliessen," Math. Z., 39, (1935), p, 178. mathematicians used the "not" symbol ¬ and the existential quantifier ∃ (there exists) from Peano's notation.
