Escher (M. C. Escher, MCE, Maurits Cornelis “Mauk” Escher; 1898-1972) was a graphic artist from the Netherlands. His work consists of lithographs, woodcuts, wood engravings, drawings, and sketches. Escher was fascinated by regular geometric figures and symmetry, which he included in his work. He plays with architecture, perspective, and impossible spaces. He is most famous for his so-called “impossible drawings” and “metamorphoses”. There is a permanent exhibition of his work in the “Escher in Het Paleis” (Escher in The Palace) museum in The Hague, the Netherlands. In addition to his work as a graphic artist, he also illustrated books and designed carpets and banknotes, stamps, murals, intarsia panels etc.
This image shows a cat sitting on a pillow surrounded by flowers. The artwork is inspired by geometric figures and symmetry, reminiscent of lithographs and woodcuts.
