Still Life with Golden Goblet

Clara Peeters (c. 1587–after 1621) was a pioneering Flemish still-life painter, one of the few women artists active in the 17th century. She is best known for her exquisite, meticulously detailed still-life paintings, which often featured food, precious metal objects, flowers, and delicate glassware. Her work is notable for its refined realism, rich textures, and subtle symbolic meanings, often reflecting themes of wealth, transience, and the pleasures of life. Peeters was among the earliest painters to include self-portraits in reflections on metal surfaces, a bold and innovative signature of her work.
