ばさん Basan are a yokai from Japanese mythology. They are fire-breathing nocturnal birds who eat charred wood and live in bamboo groves. THe fire that they breathe is not hot and cannot catch things on fire. One thing that is really cool about the Basan is that their name is onomatopoeic. It is said that they wings of the Basan make a sound like "basabasa", and that is what they are named for.
