Prehistory is rich in examples.

• Before the secondary era, giant amphibians, giant dragonflies like meganeura in environments of tall ferns and dense forests. Precursor reptiles such as dimetrodon and stegosaurus.

• Then all kinds of dinosaurs, flying reptiles like the pteranodon or dimorphodon, marine reptiles like the mosasaurus or plesiosaurus. Archaeopteryx, the ancestor of birds.

• During the ternary period, giant mammals like megatherium, glyptodon or macrauchenia, and giant birds like gastornis. Conversely, tiny horses like the eohippus.

• Then, in the age of early man, mammoths, smilodons, cave bears, woolly rhinoceroses...

The list of possibilities is endless.
