The first thing to understand about fairies is that, although they *are* real, they are of the spirit realms or Otherworld. So it is not generally possible to see them with the physical eye unless they choose to manifest themselves into the physical realm. Although rare, they may occasionally assume human or animal form.

Seen or unseen, fairies inhabit gardens all year round. There are certain times of day and year, however, when fairies are more active, and more likely to be recognized by a sensitive believer.

The key to cultivating a garden inviting to Fairies is to create a number of obscure, secluded spaces. Fairies are wary of humans with good reason and prefer hidden nooks where they can conduct their revels in private. 

If you work hard at tending after and nurturing living things in your garden, the *Wee Folk* will notice and perhaps they may let you take a closer look into their wondrous realms.
