Recently, someone commented that an elf-woman in one of my previous creations (a charcoal drawing in the style of the Brothers Hildebrandt) looked, to him, like Jennifer Aniston. I replied that I hadn't mentioned *any* celebrity's face in the prompt for that one, but it sounded like a good idea. So I created something similar as a sort of "sequel," still in the form of a charcoal drawing in the style of the Brothers Hildebrandt, but placing the young elf in different circumstances, and this time I mentioned Jennifer Aniston in the prompt. 

This version has her face turned off to one side, almost in profile, and I realized I'm not sure whether that's exactly what Jennifer Aniston's face would look like, as viewed from that particular angle. (I was never a big fan of *Friends*, and I haven't seen her face all that often.) But I will mention her name in the tags, and hope for the best.

“That's interesting,” said Fairbairn. 
“It is,” Helena replied. “Before I entered Carmel, I often attended Mass at an Anglican Use parish. My Papa was an was Episcopalian but didn't practice. We went to Christmas and Easter services, and what I remember from those services matched almost word for word at the Anglican Use Mass. Even Eversham's Divine Worship is almost identical to the Anglican Usage Mass back on Earth.”

“I see,” the Scott said. She turned to Bjornson. “That was a wonderful impression of Teal’c, Bjornson.”

“I felt he was right there with us. And that’s coming from a guy who worked with the big guy on several missions,” said Larkin. “Well done.”

Bjornson blushed. “Thank you, Sir. Ma'am,” he replied. The mention of Teal’c’s name made Sister Helena shutter. Bjornson noticed the Carmelite’s uneasiness. “Are you okay, Sister? Teal’c’s a lovable guy.”

“You just got to get over his stoic demeanor. He's a teddy bear,” said Fairbairn.

Helena swallowed hard. “I'd love to meet him, but he was part of my past.” Tears began to well up in her eyes. 

Fairbairn sensed that the topic was causing Helena pain and changed the subject. “Helena can meet Teal’c when she's ready. What have we not touched on?”

“Let's see... How about music?” Bjornsen suggested.

“Aye. That will help us transition into our planning meeting,” Fairbairn said as she took a bite of her meal and turned to Sister Helena. “What music do you like to listen to?”

Sister Helena smiled and started her cup of bug juice with a coffee spoon. I often listen to John Michael Talbot and Gregorian chant.”

That sounds like penance” Fairbairn said dryly.


Helena laughed. “Not always. Country music has always been a passion of mine. I love George Strait and especially Clint Black. Clint used to live across the Interstate from me as a kid. I had all his albums and saw many of his shows. My Papa also raised me on Glen Campbell. I still remember the words to ‘Galveston’.”

Larkin looked up with a little melancholy. “My wife loved Glenn Campbell,” he said.

A short silence followed. Not uncomfortable—just still.


The team entered the refectory and began rummaging through the box of MRE’s. Colonel Larkin chose southwest style beef and black beans, Fairbairn picked out beef stroganoff with noodles, Sister Helena picked out chicken with tomatoes and feta cheese and Bjornson picked out a pepperoni pizza slice. After preparing their meals they sat at the table. After Sister Helena said grace, the team began to eat.

“That was a lovely service,” said Fairbairn. “One of my ex-boyfriends was COE. It reminded me of a service that I went to with him. Yet it felt different.”

“We have something similar in the Catholic Church,” said Helena. “It's called the Anglican Ordinariate. Long story short, in the early 1980s several whole Episcopalian and Anglican parishes converted to Catholicism and petitioned the Pope, to allow them to keep their liturgical traditions once they were reconciled which he allowed.”
