The Story of Zhu Bajie

Zhu Bajie (猪八戒), also known as "Pigsy" in some English translations, is one of the main characters in Journey to the West (西游记), a 16th-century Chinese novel by Wu Cheng'en. He is a half-man, half-pig creature who was once a high-ranking heavenly general before being banished to the mortal world due to his flaws. At the end of the journey, Zhu Bajie is granted the title of "Cleanser of the Altar" (净坛使者), a position in the Buddhist heavens that allows him to still enjoy food—a fitting reward for someone whose desires never quite disappeared.
