Do you pronounce it "Van GO" or "Van Goff"?
A vibrant image of tipis in a field as imagined in the style of Van Gogh. The scene evokes the artist's signature brushstrokes and color palette.

@FrancoDay both are wrong ! πΈ and i know this because i'm dutch ! but the way we pronounce it has to be heard - i can't think of an english word that has the same sound as our "g" (the "h" is not pronounced). @ghost-of-renoir is right - it is a rather gutteral sound . π€·ββοΈ and even "van" is often pronounced wrong : it's not "ven" but the "a" should sound like the "a" in car. I hope you don't mind my lecture !πΉ
I know it's Van Goff...but say Van Go because most people would think I am saying it wrong. π
"Van Goff" for me and I expect most people in the UK! Is "Van Go" the preferred American English pronunciation? I believe the Dutch pronunciation is far more gutteral sounding. Here is a handy BBC pronunciation guide! https://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/magazinemonitor/2010/01/how_to_say_van_gogh.shtml βοΈ
