There once existed a Greek water nymph called Clytie. Clytie fell in love with the Sun God Apollo. She always looked at him with the hope that he would be interested in her. Unfortunately, Apollo was interested in her sister, and didn't look Clytie's way.
It took Clytie a long while to realize that Apollo had no interest. She became depressed as a result of the one-sided love. Fasting for nine days, she lived only on dew and tears and did not stir from the ground. She just turned her gaze towards the sun and stared at him as he moved across the sky.
Eventually, other Greek gods felt sorry for her and decided to transform her into a beautiful sunflower instead of leaving her the way she was. It is believed that even to this day, the Sunflower keeps looking at the sun from the moment the sun rises till he sets. π»π₯
