Même ceux qui pensaient que le secret de l’Oracle résidait dans l’osmose parfaite de la machine et de la jeune fille ne comprenaient rien à rien.
Cette ignorance du commun, du peuple, et même des grands de ce monde, rendait particulièrement fier le professeur Wangram qui, lui, savait. Qui, lui, comprenait. Qui, lui, avait en charge l’entretien et le bon fonctionnement de l’Oracle. Responsabilité importante dont il s’acquittait avec zèle et méticulosité. Même Audra, son épouse, elle-même scientifique pourtant, ne comprenait pas exactement le fonctionnement de l’Oracle et il avait beau le lui expliquer encore et encore… elle restait sourde à la poésie, à la beauté, à la sainteté, de l’Oracle.

Part 2 : Pour le professeur Wangram, la machine ne faisait que calculer les probabilités, nombreuses et infiniment complexes. Mais la vie humaine n’est pas affaire de chiffres et de pourcentages. Pour le professeur Wangram, la jeune fille ne faisait qu’alimenter la machine de la folie psychologique et émotive des humains. Mais la vie humaine n’est pas affaire de psyché et de sentiments. Pour le professeur Wangram, le secret de l’Oracle résidait dans sa connexion avec Dieu Lui-même. Il en était persuadé : l’Oracle avait été conçu à l’image de la Divinité suprême. Quand la jeune fille ouvrait la bouche pour annoncer le futur d’un être ou d’un peuple, elle devenait Prophétesse. Porte-parole de Dieu !
Pour le professeur Wangram, s’occuper et entretenir l’Oracle, c’était servir Dieu. Il était ce serviteur du Divin, le premier, le plus important, le plus grand adorateur de Dieu.

Part 3 : Bien sûr, la jeune fille était importante aussi ! Il le reconnaissait ! Elle était choisie parmi toutes les habitantes des mondes connus. Choisie par l’Oracle lui-même pour remplacer la précédente jeune fille dont les forces et la vie avaient été entièrement épuisées. Toujours une jeune fille, toujours une humaine. Un sacrifice, certes, mais… Un sacrifice sacro-saint ! 
Et le professeur Wangram respectait ce sacrifice et l’Oracle de toute son âme. Jamais il n’avait osé poser la moindre question à l’Oracle. Il ne se sentait pas assez digne pour le faire. Il se sentait surtout trop différent du reste de l’humanité. Il ne s’adressait jamais à l’Oracle sauf pour lui dire combien il l’aimait. Combien il était entièrement dévoué à l’Oracle, à la machine et à la jeune fille.
