Now that the sun’s heat no longer beat down from directly overhead, the market was beginning to flourish once more, keeping Mika from noticing the passage of time. Even so, that did not stop the thought gnawing at the back of her mind.

They should have been back by now.

Thankfully, a new customer helped drown out the thought a little. Approaching the counter with one child wearing a wide cone-shaped hat trotting alongside her and another held in her arm was a tall feline woman, her figure graced by a form-fitting black dress with a floral pattern along its high collar and down its right side where hidden fastenings kept it tight against her body.

Balancing the infant in her arms, she raised a hand and said politely, “Two zinjabar chow brochette please!”
