When I think of Joy Division… I think about The Crow… so crazy! These are really good!!!

The movie The Crow and its soundtrack were my indirect introduction to Joy Division ... I loved "Dead Souls" and had to find out more about the song's creators. I don't remember whether I had a nearby bookstore order the compilation "Permanent" or if I ordered it from Amazon -- this was long enough ago that Amazon might not have been a thing yet -- but the songs floored me.

"The Eternal" was one I wouldn't discover until I bought "Closer" (soon afterward!) but remains, to this day, one of the most beautiful recordings I've ever heard from any musicians in any genre.

Ian Curtis's death was a tragedy, but as Peter Hook notes in a recent interview (look his name up on Yahoo), the real tragedy was Deborah Curtis's loss of a husband, Natalie's loss of a father, and his parents' loss of a son. Su-c-de doesn't hurt the one who dies, but it shatters those who are left behind.

I had read the graphic novels before the movie and loved them although they kinda woke up a dark space so to speak about wishing to right wrongs… I was an impressionable kiddo at the time really. Lots of lyrics there and got me looking for the songs that went with them… Was excited for the movie then heartbroken over Brandon Lee… so sad!!! I will have to look into the music some more… more than just listening. Sounds like there is great history behind the music too. Will have to check it out!! You know so much!!  😍
