“It's a date!” Fairbairn replied with enthusiasm. However, Edward was puzzled with Fairbairn’s words. Izzy understood and repeated her phrase in words Edward would understand. “We are agreed!”

“Shall I collect you from your base?” 

“Oh yes please, kind Edward,” Fairbairn replied. “See you then.” Edward nodded and went back to his work and took off on his mount.

Bjornson had a wild look in his eye and said, “An evening at the tavern, eh? Careful, Squadron Leader, you'll have the poor lad begging quarter before the night’s through.”

Helena pressed her lips together, trying not to laugh.

Larkin folded his arms. “Enjoy yourself, Fairbairn. Do you remember that we're diplomats as well as soldiers,” he said.

“I hardly plan to start a bar fight," Fairbairn said dryly.

Bjornson grinned. "Just don't break his heart too quick. The villagers might never forgive us."

Helena finally let out a quiet laugh shaking her head. “I think Edward knows what he’s getting into.” turning to Fairbairn she said, “I wish you a wonderful time tonight, Fairbairn.”

“Ah! Thanks, mate!” said Fairbairn. As soon as Fairbairn had finished unhitching the horses, haltering, and feeding them some oats, she rejoined her team.

“Helena, when is an hour after Evensong?” Fairbairn asked.

“I’ve noticed that the bells sound for Evensong at around 1800 hours,” Helena replied. “So Edward will pick you up at 1900.” 

“I see. Thank you, Sister.” Helena nodded and smiled.


They went into the monastery and hung up their tactical gear. They went into the refectory and set up a projector and screen, adding a camera so that they could be seen by General Carter. The room was bright from the noonday sun, so Fairbairn, Helena, and Bjornson hung some blackout curtains over the windows. Larkin directed them to put the curtains into the proper places. Once all was in place, the team sat down to eat lunch.

The village bells rang out for the noon hour. Sister Helena bowed her head and prayed the Angelus. She prayed *soto voce* so as not to disturb or offend her teammates, though her teammates were well aware of her prayer life.

They arrived at the stables. Edward was waiting for them, saddling his horse. “Welcome back, SG-24,” he said. “Are you finished with Starfire and Mildred?”

“Aye. Thank you for letting us use them.” Fairbairn replied.

“You're very welcome, Miss Fairbairn.” He paused, working some courage for what he wanted to say to the Scot. “Would you mind if we could meet up at the pub later this evening? If... If it's all right with your commander.” 

Fairbairn looked at Colonel Larkin who gave her a “It's all right with me” look. She smiled. “I'd love that, Edward,” she said. 

“So... an hour after Evensong sounds fine with you?” Edward asked.
