A murmur of agreement rippled through the council. I sat back, feeling a mix of satisfaction and frustration. Even when I tried to use my warrior’s perspective, it seemed I was still confined by the constraints of my title.

The meeting continued with discussions that felt as endless as the hallway of the castle. My thoughts wandered to the training grounds, where the clash of steel and the thrill of combat were the only things that truly made me feel alive. The contrast between my duties as a princess and my passion for being a warrior was a constant, gnawing ache.

As the council session finally drew to a close, I excused myself, eager to escape the stifling confines of the hall. Stepping outside, I took a deep breath of fresh air, letting it clear the lingering stress from the meeting. The sun was climbing higher in the sky, illuminating the vibrant hues of the Enchanted Forest and the distant peaks.

“Princess Elara,” a familiar voice called out. It was Dutchess Amara, my mentor and friend, her face breaking into a warm smile as she approached. “You look like you could use a break.”

“More than you know,” I replied, feeling a genuine smile tug at my lips. “Shall we?”

Lord Thorne, the kingdom’s most trusted advisor, cleared his throat. “We’ve been discussing the proposed alliance with the neighboring kingdom of Serathia. There are concerns regarding the terms of trade and security.”

“Concerns that we’ve addressed before,” I interjected, surprising myself with the firmness in my voice. “What’s changed?”

Lord Thorne raised an eyebrow, clearly taken aback by my interruption. “Your insight is appreciated, Princess, but these matters are delicate and require careful consideration.”
