Chuck suggested, “Pluck and dry the wishbone, then pull on it for good luck.”
I responded, “It all seems a bit barbaric, a thing no one should want to do, like licking the bottom of a shoe.”
Chuck insisted, “Breaking the wishbone is an early cultural tradition, all over, like lucky acorns or four-leaf clovers.” He shared with me just what to do. By holding the biggest piece, you will have your wish come true.
Chuck persisted, “Birds are like oracles to foresee what will be.” I replied, “It didn’t do this insightful bird very much good, as you can plainly see, and that frippery should have stayed part of ancient history.”
“No way!” snapped Buck. “It’s all just part of winning fantastic luck! Don’t listen to her nonsense, Chuck!”
Later, I found out, Chuck’s wish was the same as mine, for Buck to get lost in the Siberian taiga forest pines.
