After all, if she is "57," then where are the other 56? And is she the last in her sequence?

More accurately, she doesn't "have" multiple personalities per se. She *is* a multiple personality -- much like a Portuguese man o' war is a colonial organism. Another way to describe it is as an internalized hive mind.
