Carandol was the name of Adrahil's father. A man named for his dark red hair. An unusual colour to find in a dunadan, so pure of blood as he.  wish I could say Carandol was a good man, alas he was a cuel man. Cruel to his wife, and three children. There had been a fourth, the first born, a son, but he died as a baby. That was part of what pushed the already unstable ranger who had seen too much over the edge. 

He started drinking heavily. Basically quit the whole ranger thing altogether, in favor of staying home at home tormenting his family. He would beet his wife badly, but seldom turned his hand against the children, until they began to get older. It started with Adrahil's older brother, who at 14, when his siblings were only 11,and 10 ran away, abandoning them, and his mother to their father's wrath. ...

Adrahil was a devoted elder brother to his sister Verethiel. The youngest, and one one year younger than Adrahil. He protected her, and never let his father lay a hand on her. He was afraid I of what Carandol might do to her. The man had threatened terrible things. 

One day when his father had passed out drunk again. Adrahil went out hunting, as was his custom, to ensure that his family did not starve, for Carandol's incompetence as a provider.

When he returned with a few rabbits, he heard the familiar screams of his mother being attacked. Only this time it sounded so much worse than before.

Carandol had woken up, before expected. He saw that Adrahil was gone, and thought his only remaining son, and the only member of his family for whom he'd seemed to have any respect left at all, had run away like his brother, like his good for nothing brother.

 Furious, and still quite drunk, he blamed his wife, and they got in a heated argument. He thought she told him to go. When she denied it. He at last went after Verethiel, her mother got between them, and Carandol snapped. A final resounding CRACK!, sounded the end of his shriveled morals, and of his wife, who when he threw her on the floor, cracked her skull, and never woke up....

A boy born Adrahil, son of Carandol,  he would become one of the greatest archers, among the rangers of the north, and take the name Pillinor.

Strong winds make a strong tree.
